Meet Rev. Christie

Hello. I'm Christie.

I'm an ordained interfaith minister in Raleigh, and I've been creating and officiating wedding ceremonies since 2015. My work is simple to describe: I get to know you, then I write a ceremony that sounds like you, and I have the joy of standing with you while you say it out loud.

My own path

I've lived interfaith, not just studied it.

I grew up Catholic, the treasured tradition of my father. In my twenties I became an Episcopalian, and I spent many years in the Episcopal and Unity communities. Later I converted to Judaism, the rich tradition of my mother and her ancestors, among them a great-great-grandfather who was a rabbi.

For a long stretch of that journey, I had far more questions than answers. I've never forgotten what that feels like. It's why nothing you tell me about your beliefs, or your doubts, will be judged here.

I find joy, extraordinary wisdom and deep beauty in almost every wisdom tradition. So when a couple tells me they come from two different worlds, I understand. I also know how beautiful those worlds can be together.

Beneath the diversity of beliefs and observances lies a deeper unity of experience that is our shared spiritual heritage.

Trained for this work

Seminary-trained, and a teacher by profession

I graduated from One Spirit Interfaith Seminary in New York after two years of study, and I was ordained in 2015. Many wedding officiants are ordained online in an afternoon. My training asked a great deal more of me: the world's great wisdom traditions, the craft of ceremony, and the care it takes to hold sacred space for a family. I believe you can feel that difference on your wedding day.

By profession I'm an educator and a coach. I hold a doctorate in adult education from NC State, I'm a Board Certified Coach, and I listen to people for a living. Mostly that means I'm a very good listener, which nervous couples seem to appreciate.

What exactly is an interfaith minister?

What I bring

What you can expect from me

Deep listening

I'll ask about your story, your families, your beliefs and your worries, then design a ceremony that takes all of it into account.

Many traditions, handled with care

Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, indigenous, spiritual-but-not-religious, or nothing religious at all. We'll include what's meaningful and leave out what isn't.

Grace with family dynamics

Divorced parents, blended families, a grandmother hoping for a prayer. It's more common than you'd think, and we'll plan for it together, quietly and kindly.

Warmth, and a little humor

Couples tell me I'm warm, funny, professional and compassionate. I'd add pragmatic: your ceremony will also be the right length for a hot summer day.

“Work is love made visible.”
Kahlil Gibran · The Prophet

Why I do this

“It is truly a privilege and a joy to hold sacred space for couples who are getting married. It is one of the most important days of their life, and also for their families. I feel lucky to be a part of these special moments.”

At home

When I'm not officiating

A native of Connecticut, I've lived in Raleigh since my days as an undergraduate at NC State. I'm lucky enough to be married to my best friend and the love of my life, Charles.

We share our home with three kitties: Rose, Harry and Ollie. When I'm not writing a ceremony, you'll likely find me volunteering with cat rescue, cooking, reading, out for a long walk, or listening to something wonderful from the North Carolina Symphony.

Kind words

What couples say about working with me

Christie made our wedding absolutely perfect! She delivered a customized ceremony and executed it flawlessly. She was warm, funny, professional, and compassionate. It was more than we could have ever wished for, and we appreciate every sincere word!

Katie & Allen

She was able to weave in stories from our life together into the ceremony, and it was a perfect balance of memories and our hopes for the future. Christie is genuine, thoughtful and warm, and we will cherish the memories she helped create for a lifetime.
